- PC will always be cheaper, but in the end is the use of it that counts, if u're planning to chat, surf, social networking, watching videos and playing games pc will be the best choice, those who are graphic or music profecionist can consider the purchase of a mac.
So, let\'s assume a single quad core i7 is being used for the PC, with hyperthreading to emulate 8 cores. Current price on Newegg is about $290. $900 for the monitors. Another $290 for 6x2GB DDR 3, and you\'re already over that $1400. ~$100 for 1.5TB HDD, and another $90+ for the dual video cards. We\'ll be generous and assume the rest, including case, motherboard, power supply, etc adds up to $300ish. I say generous because a board with 6 ram slots for an i7 starts around $150, not leaving much wiggle room for the rest of the components to squeeze into that remaining $150.
That\'s about $2000. Pushing $2300 if you add a second i7 for true 8 core, but then that requires a dual socket mobo, and those aren\'t cheap. Could be pushing $3000 at that point.
Now, a trip to Apple.com to check out a price on what\'s listed in the comparison, minus the displays, comes out to $5,449. $900 for the two non-Apple monitors brings that to about $6350. Apple charges $300 for the 12GB RAM upgrade from the standard 6GB. Getting that from Newegg is about $200 cheaper, so $6100ish.
So roughly twice as expensive as the PC, however that\'s for dual quad-core Xeon\'s, compared to dual quad core i7\'s. Considering Xeon\'s are about 3x the price of i7\'s, that\'s a pretty fair price indeed. If you don\'t need what the Xeon\'s offer, by all means, build a hackintosh and save the $3000.
Just for a comparison, a same spec\'d PC, swaping Xeon\'s for the i7\'s would add $1200+, plus whatver a dual Xeon board costs. I would not be surprised to see that total hit $5000. So you save ~$1000 for a pieced together, multi-manufacturer warranty nightmare should anything go wrong. I suppose that\'s a fair trade-off.
See what happens when you actually compare things properly?
